FRIENDSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH

Who gets your vote?
Matt. 27:22-25

Every four years in our country we have an election for President.  It seems that this year we are getting a very early start on the process since both the Republicans and Democrats have a very large field to choose from in the primaries.  Having voted in every election since my 18th birthday, it seems that we still have politics “as usual.”  It seems as if neither party wants to do right anymore. Back in 1853 we had a party on the ballot called the "know-nothing party;" unfortunately, I believe that a few of them have survived until today.

I want to introduce you to a candidate that you won't find on your ballot this year. Rest assured, though, that He is the BEST possible one that could be elected.  Let me introduce you to my candidate and tell you a little about Him.

 1.     Who is my candidate (read Matt.27:22)?

            A.   My candidate is none other than Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of
                  God.

B.
Who are his parents?

Well, He is the only one of the candidates to be born very differently from
all the others. He had an earthly mother but a Heavenly Father.  His mother was the VIRGIN Mary.  His Father was God the Father.

            C.  What kind of character does my candidate possess?

I feel positive that nobody will be able to dig up any dirt against my candidate.  He
lived a perfect life for 33 years on this earth and never committed one sin.

If you or I handle a piece of coal, our hands will become soiled.  Jesus never was soiled
by the world as far as sin is concerned.

             D.  What is the goal of my candidate?

He healed the sick, enabled the blind to see, and enabled the lame to walk.  He even raised the dead!  Though all of these were great deeds, none of them can compare to the greatest goal He had which was to provide eternal life to all mankind through His death on Calvary (read Rom. 5:8-9).

2.      What kind of record does He have (read Acts 4:12)?

            A.  He has saved all that have come to him for salvation (read John 6:37).

B.  He has never failed His people. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we end up failing
someone.  This can never be said about Jesus Christ.  I have never met anyone that
honestly told me they were sorry for having accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord.

3.     What does my candidate promise?

A. Today it seems that the politicians will promise the people anything.  It looks like people
want the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave.

Recently, one of the leading candidates promised $5,000.00 for every newborn baby. They
also promised free health care to everyone in our country whether they are here legally or
not. Sadly, there was no discussion about how all of this was to be paid for.  If I had to
guess, I would say it probably involves higher taxes.

B. Everyone reading this today will vote one way or the other.  In our text Pilate asked the
question, "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?”

Your eternal destiny depends on how you answer this question.  If you would like to know

C. My candidate promised eternal life to all that believe on Him (read John 3:16, John 3:36,
     I John 5:12).

Who are you voting for? Which of the candidates will receive your vote?

Rest assured that you can trust my candidate, Jesus Christ.

Suppose that you were taking an airplane flight from Knoxville, TN, to Bristol, TN.  To take the trip, all you have to do is to get on board the plane, take your assigned seat, buckle up, and trust the pilot to take you to your destination.

Thank God, what He promised He will do.  Vote for Jesus and you can know that you will always be a winner.

As we approach 2008 and the elections, be sure to bathe your vote in much prayer since one day you will have to account for it.
