FRIENDSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH

What’s right about the church?
Eph. 5:21-29

We are living in a world that has become very critical about many things, and the church is no exception. People find all kinds of excuses for not attending church. Some of the excuses are:

The church is full of hypocrites (ever heard that one)

The service is too long, the music is too loud, the

temperature of the church is either too hot or too cold, etc.

I've heard about all of them.

Once a man said, "I don't have any bananas.” When I asked what that meant, he said, "I guess one excuse is as good as another."  With all this negativity, let me say there are still many good things about the church.
What are they, you might ask?

     I.     The church is built on the right foundation (read Mat.7:24-29).
A. Jesus founded and built the church.

The church was not founded by Peter as some will try to tell you.  Jesus  knew that Peter was an imperfect man just like we are, and that he would later fail the Lord.

II.     The church has the right message (read John 3:16).

A.  There is much talk today about man’s greatest needs.  Some would say
that we need more and better jobs.
 I would agree with that
                      wholeheartedly.
Some think that we need better health care. I,
                      too,
would agree with that, but I don't think what is being proposed by the

politicians is the right answer.  Man’s greatest need is Jesus Christ.  In
                      other words,
what this world needs is a good dose of Jesus
                      Christ
!

            B.  The main purpose of the church isn't to promote a social program.
We need to be leading men and women to the Lord.

III.         What do we owe the church?

                 A.  Everyone needs to line up with a local New Testament church where the
good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is being practiced and preached.

I often read the obituaries in our local paper and am amazed to find the
number of people that belong to the Baptist faith while never listing a

home church.

                   B.   We owe the church our prayers for its leaders.  The leaders and
teachers, bus workers, ushers, etc., really need the prayers of God’s

people.

                C.   We also owe the church our faithfulness to its services.
Just as our bodies need food, water, and exercise to grow, we need the
instruction of God’s Word in the church to help us grow.

I once saw a church sign that we all need to read and follow:  "No one is too bad to come in.  No one is too good to stay out."  This sure does say a lot about the church.

It is my hope that you are a child of the Lord and that you belong to a good fundamental church where you can grow in the Lord and enjoy fellowship with other Christians.  As a pastor, I thank God for the wonderful people that the Lord has allowed me to pastor for the past nineteen years.

May the Lord bless each of you.
