DON'T STAY DOWN
Text:  Phil 3:13-14

In these days in which we live, we are often faced with down times.  We don't really like them, but they will come into the lives of all of God's people.  Sometimes they may be triggered by an accident, loss of a job, a broken relationship, financial difficulties, etc.  But we are not to dwell on these to the point that they get us down.  How can we overcome these feelings according to God's Word?

1. Stop looking downward (READ Psalms 42:5):
The more we look down, the more depressed we will become.  Discouragement is one of satan's favorite tools he uses against God's people.  As a pastor, I deal with this on a daily basis.  There is no difficulty we can't overcome with God's help.  Read Phil 3:13.  This verse is personal, positive, and powerful.
2. Stop looking inward:
We are usually our own worst enemy.  We become self-centered thinking only of our own needs.  There are people all around us who can use a friendly word, hug, and/or encouragement in their lives.  There are plenty of people who need our help if we will just look outward and not at ourselves.
3. Stop looking backward:
As our text read, "Forgetting those things which are behind."  Our past is under the blood if you are a child of God.  Don't let the devil remind you of something you've done in the past.  Those things are under the blood of Jesus Christ.

Let's not stay down.  We're on the winning side.  Let's look to the future knowing God is in total control.
